HFPA Presents at the HPGS Conference: Revitalizing Partnerships for Fall Prevention

Falls are the leading cause of injury among older adults, and preventing them requires more than individual effort—it takes collective action. At the recent Hawai'i Pacific Gerontological Society (HPGS) conference, our members—Michiyo Tomioka, Phoebe Hwang, Joseph Puente, Catia Garell, and Candice Bryant—presented “Revitalizing Partnerships for Fall Prevention: Promoting Active Aging Through Collective Action.

The session highlighted Hawai‘i’s statewide effort, supported by the National Council on Aging (NCOA), to strengthen and sustain its fall prevention coalition. By bringing together partners from the State Health Department, the University of Hawai‘i, the State Unit on Aging, and community-based organizations, the coalition is working to reduce falls and promote active aging through shared leadership and collaboration.

Audience were invited to consider how they, too, can contribute to fall prevention initiatives in their own communities—helping to create safer environments and support older adults in living active, healthy lives.
